Looking forward to the 2012 Olympic Games in London? It certainly seems that Acer is, earlier today it announced the Iconia Tab A510 Olympic Games Edition to mark the occasion. Early signs suggest this is nothing more than some smart marketing as the technical specifications appear to be identical to the forthcoming Iconia Tab A510. The only notable difference is cosmetic and consists of a discreet Olympic rings silver logo on the rear of the tablet.

For those of you who missed the details of the original Iconia Tab A510 the first time around, here’s a quick reminder of the highlights :-

Android 4.0 Ice Cream SandwichNvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM10.1″, 1280 x 800 touch screen16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage options9800 mAh batteryAcer says that the Olympic Edition Iconia Tab will launch in the UK around the same time that the 2012 Olympics kick off, there is no word yet on international availability. There’s also no word on pricing at this time but we would hope that it won’t be any higher than the  €399 ($522) listed for the standard edition.Check out the full press release below and be sure to let us know in the comments if the Olympic branding adds any additional appeal to this high-end Android tablet.

Acer Introduces the ICONIA TAB A510 Olympic Games Edition – This ultimate tool for the road features very long battery life, quad-core performance, and mobile productivity toolsHANNOVER, GERMANY

Acer introduces the ICONIA TAB A510 Olympic Games Edition. Celebrating Acer’s partnership with the Olympic Movement, the design unites the Acer and Olympic logos, and is available in black or silver. The ICONIA TAB A510 is the company’s newest Android Ice Cream Sandwich-based tablet. It features 15 hours of battery life for true all-day usability, a powerful NVIDIA® TEGRA® 3 quad-core processor, and the latest tools for mobile productivity, sharing and more.

The ICONIA TAB A510′s 9800mAh battery supports up to 15 hours of HD video playback. The extra power doesn’t add bulk to the tablet because parallel battery packaging keeps it slim.

A powerful NVIDIA® TEGRA® 3 quad-core processor executes a smart workload distribution with more power and less battery consumption. It handles heavy multitasking, HD videos, console-like gaming, and faster web browsing, while a fifth “companion” core takes care of low-power tasks like music playback and active standby.

Mobile productivity apps include Acer Print, which makes wireless printing easier with support for various document formats, photos and web pages. Acer Print is compatible with 87% of brand-name printers on the current market.

Polaris® Office, meanwhile, is optimized for tablet-based work. It provides practical improvements for editing and reading MS Office documents on the go.

Noise suppression and echo cancellation technologies enhance audio recording, and video calls in HD Voice are excellent. Superior audio enjoyment for music, movies and more comes courtesy of Dolby® Mobile 3+ with premium 5.1-channel HD output.

The ICONIA TAB A510 Olympic Games Edition starts a series of products that Acer designed specially for the Olympic Games in London. Available for consumers starting from March, this is the perfect tablet for cheering on your favorite athletes during the biggest sports event of 2012.

Tweet acer-iconia-tab-a200-will-focus-on-key-tablet-usage Acer is looking to mix things up with the Iconia Tab A200

Acer has revealed that it will launch its new Iconia Tab A200 in mid-March, with the aim to keep the cost low by removing features which are rarely used on tablet devices.

Speaking to TechRadar at MWC 2012 Julien Bertheuil, Acer's UK Sales Manager, confirmed that the Wi-Fi only 10-inch Iconia Tab A200 will launch in the next few weeks. It will come packing a respectable 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, front facing camera and microSD card slot.

Acer is keen to focus on the key reasons why people use tablets, so in order to keep the tablet low-priced and thus competitive in the already crowded market, features which are rarely used have been lost.

Less is more

The Iconia Tab A200 will be missing some features commonly found on other tablets, as Bertheuil explained, "you're not likely to go outside and take pictures with a tablet, so we've decided to take the back camera out, because it's cost saving – we're keeping the front camera because people want to video chat and skype."

Bertheuil continued: "we've decided to remove the HDMI port because people plug their tablet into their TV once, twice, maybe three times and our studies show that 95 per cent of tablet usage is sofa based - such as browsing the web, watching videos and checking emails."

By removing features which Acer has found are used infrequently, the Iconia Tab A200 can deliver a quality processor, display and memory configuration.

There is no word on the actual pricing, but Acer is obviously looking to mix things up in the tablet market so we could be looking at a sub-£200 device.

More details on the Acer Iconia Tab A200 will be released in the coming weeks, so stayed tuned for the full low-down.

Acer unveils Iconia Tab A200 and quad-core A700 tablets

Acer has unveiled two new tablets from its Iconia Tab range, one of which is set to cause quite a stir as the company begins the battle to win best product of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.
The show stopping powerhouse of a tablet, the Iconia Tab A700 looks set to compete directly against the Transformer Prime with its massive specification list. It features a Tegra 3 quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, 1GB RAM with a native 1080p “IPS quality” 1920x1200 pixel 10.1-inch display, along with mini-USB, mini-HDMI and micro-SD ports and a reverse mounted 5-megapixel camera.
It looks to be running Google’s latest mobile OS, Android 4.0 ICS, with a subtly tweaked Acer UI skin that appears to contrast well with the native ICS interface. As it’s a prototype model there aren’t many details available, including storage options, connectivity, pricing or availability.
Also making an appearance is the Acer Iconia Tab A200 tablet (below), sporting a 10.1-inch display with a 1280x800 pixel resolution. It features 8GB of onboard storage, is powered by a Tegra 2 dual-core processor with an integrated GeForce GPU. The front features a 2-megapixel camera, with another mounted in the titanium grey pattern rear cover. Also included is a mini-HDMI port and micro-SD card slot.
Initially the A200 will be available with Android 3.2 Honeycomb, with the company offering free updates to Android 4.0 ICS sometime in February. According to Acer the battery will provide enough juice to power it for 8 hours before needing recharging.
The A200 will be available from major retailers in the US from January 15 starting at around $329.99. A 16GB model will also be available for around $350.
