Archos Apologizes For G9 ICS Delay, Deploying Within Two Weeks

"> 0by Stacy Bruce

It was back in December that we first heard Archos claim that its G9 series of tablets would receive the ICS update sometime in Q1 of this year. Here we are in the home stretch of the first Quarter and we have yet to see the devices get the update. Now, apparently Archos wants to apologize for the delay and is ready to put a more exact timeline on the update. They recently took to their Facebook page claiming “they fully anticipate deploying the upgrade within the next two weeks,” as I am sure you G9 are are pleased to hear. They also emphasize the importance of delivering a smooth transition to the latest version of the Android OS. At least they are trying to make it a bug-free launch unlike the one ASUS issued for the Transformer Prime.

As soon as we can pin down an exact rollout date, or when we receive word of its arrival, we will let you know.

Intel confirms Ivy Bridge processor delay

Manufacturing difficulties blamed, Ultrabooks will sufferLaptops News By Jools Whitehorn Monday at 09:42 UTC | Tell us what you think [ 0 comments ]

Tweet ultrabooks Ultrabooks hit by processor delay

Intel has confirmed that the delivery of its new Ivy Bridge processor which will power the next generation of Ultrabooks has been delayed.

We had already heard rumblings that shipments of the new chip could be knocked back, but now it has been confirmed by Intel's Sean Maloney.

The Ivy Bridge chips were expected as early as April, but when asked for a new release date by the Financial Times, Maloney said, "I think maybe it's June now."

22 tricky nanometers

Maloney suggested the delay was due to the upgraded manufacturing process used to produce the 22nm process chips (compared to the 32nm process Sandy Bridge chips).

The delay will have a knock-on effect on the production of the next generation of Ultrabooks which are set to rely upon Intel's Ivy Bridge mobile processor to deliver longer battery life and faster speeds than its predecessor, Sandy Bridge.

Next-gen Ultrabooks could suffer because of chip delay

Intel Ivy Bridge processor 'postponed'Processors News By Marc Chacksfield 3 hours ago | Tell us what you think [ 0 comments ]

Tweet next-gen-ultrabooks-could-suffer-because-of-chip-delay Ultrabooks - not quite ready for the next gen

Intel looks to have postponed the launch of its upcoming Ivy Bridge chip range, which is set to have a knock-on effect on the next-generation of Ultrabooks.

Although the delay is yet to be confirmed, DigiTimes is reporting that mass volume shipments of the chips won't start until June with only a small quantity of chips being released by April.

Given that April was meant to be the scheduled shipment, this will mean that the new range of Ultrabooks will come to market later than expected.

If you couple this with the 'limbo' time between now and the launch of Windows 8 and it isn't looking great for laptop sales in the first half of this year.

Poisoned Ivy?

Intel has been open about when it wanted to launch its Ivy Bridge processors. Back in January, Intel CEO Paul Otellini said in his earning call that: "We'll launch Ivy Bridge, our first 22-nanometer product, in early spring…

"We have a very fast ramp of Ivy Bridge, strong demand."

It is expected that some highly anticipated laptops will launch on time – it's pretty likely that Apple managed to get some of the first batch of chips.
