Google Music 'losing customers weekly'

Unnamed exec spies trouble for the serviceInternet News By Marc Chacksfield 13 hours ago | Tell us what you think [ 1 comments ]

Tweet google-music-losing-customers-weekly- Not loving the sound of music

Google Music isn't doing as well as Google would hope, with the service losing members on a weekly basis.

An unnamed digital music executive has spoken out about the service and believes that it is haemorrhaging users and has been since launch.

This has all come about since CNET did an investigation into Google Music and found that it was not living up to expectations.

This is according to Wayne Rosso, a columnist from The Music Void, who has it on good authority that Google Music is going through a difficult emo phase at the moment.

"I've never seen anything like it", explained a source to Rosso."It's astounding. It's hard to believe that with an install base of over 200 million Android handsets they're actually losing customers."

Below expectations

According to CNET, Google Music's customer adoption and revenue are below expectations but nobody is sounding the deathknell on the service just yet as it is barely out of its first quarter.

Google is yet to launch Google Music in the UK and made the interesting decision to launch the service in the US originally as a Beta, without any proper advertising, and then as a fully fledged service back in November.

Google has so far kept quiet about the number of people using Music.

1. For me the killer was that I had duplicate songs and duplicate play lists .. lots of them. This was a known problem from the beginning and there was never a patch or other instructions to fix it. I just this week - in a last ditch effort to fix it - deleted all music from the server, deleted the content from my droid client, uninstalled the droid client, and told my PC client to reload from the iTunes location.. the rebuild seemed to fix the problem, but the hassle was uncalled for.

This has been the story of Google from the beginning too. They are great innovators but absolutely suck at productization - something Apple excels at.

Google has all the right pieces to be a real competitor in the mobile ecosystem wars, but I just don't see them being able to compete with Apple and now Windows Phone as far as offering something resembling 'finished'.

The Google ‘everything is beta’ is getting old, and they will get left in the dust if they don’t learn how to build a finished product.

Droid RAZR MAXX just $199 for new customers on Amazon

Droid-RAZR-MAXX-630

The Droid RAZR MAXX just became available for purchase earlier today on Verizon’s site for $299 and here we are with a sale already. Amazon Wireless is offering to shave $100 off the top for new Verizon customers and get you out the door for a more palatable $199.

If you are an existing customer you can upgrade for $229, which isn’t a bad deal either. It does show as being on backorder at the moment, but based on past experience they usually ship on the early side of their estimates.

For those that somehow missed our previous coverage of the Droid RAZR MAXX then I’ll give you the elevator pitch for it quickly. For all intents and purposes it is the original Droid RAZR which we reviewed back in November, but with a 3300 mAh battery that may result in over 24 hours of battery life.

I’ll be getting my hands on the Droid RAZR MAXX tomorrow and will follow up with our full review soon. In the mean time, check out a super quick hands-on with the RAZR MAXX from this month’s CES (filmed with a Galaxy Nexus).

3300mAh battery… More of this please manufacturers. I can handle my phone being a couple mm thicker.

The nice thing is that it’s still only 8.9mm thick which may be obese by original RAZR standards, but it’s still thinner than almost anything else in the lineup.

Yea, would love to throw away the extra charger I keep at work…

Wow, battery life sounds great! I’m constantly having to recharge right now.

Go get this guys. $100 is good amount.

If you sell Android for $300 it is not easy to compete with iPhone. Motorola guys – understand this first!

How do online sites sell the exact same phone for $100-$200 less?
Do I gain anything, anything at all, by shopping at my local Verizon store?

Warrant?
Returns?
Anything?

Reply 95Sean Riley 17 hours ago Thumb upThumb down +1

Sorry, the big catch to buying through the 3rd party sites is that you are subject to multiple early termination fees if you try to get out of the contract. You do have 30 days to return the phone without being subject to any penalties, but beyond that you would get hit by an ETF from both Amazon and Verizon.
