Super Bowl XLVI app now available in Android Market

Planning to watch the New York Giants defeat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl on Sunday? The NFL just released their official Super Bowl XLVI Guide to the Android Market where it’s free to download. It appears the app has a lot of features geared towards those lucky enough to be in Indianapolis this weekend, but there are plenty of other goodies for those watching from home.

Highlights of the app include:

Ah, American Football. Huge bulky steroid enriched behemoths bashing into each other in-between way too much stopping and starting. Again the American preoccupation with military type maneuvers overly complicated planning and infinite interruptions of a game that is boring enough as it is without being interrupted every 5 seconds so that the gaily clad referee can make air-angels, point South, East, North and West and listen to his voice echo off the stadium speaker system whilst TV audiences watch mind-numbing replays in ultra-slow-motion of a 2 second piece of action that happened 5 minutes ago is too much for me to bear. The occasional grunt and broken neck not-withstanding this is a dull sport which most people just don’t get.

Yes, a boring sport, unlike cricket. Or rounders. Or baseball!

Most sports are boring to those who aren’t interested in them. I don’t care so much for basketball these days, and, as such, I find it boring, even though there is non-stop action.

But I really get in to watching baseball, where (seemingly) nothing happens for extended periods of time.

Awesome. I am glad to see more events and companies utilizing mobile applications. I have seen some really good conference apps (google makes one) for big conferences.

I have seen some pretty good apps for music festivals (ACL) as well … I hope the trend continues. I always have my phone but don’t always want to carry a paper guide around.

Here is to hoping they boosted the network for the large crowds or put up Wi-Fi!!

Also .. I wanted to note that I like having the apps better than just mobile pages because the app can store or cache a lot of the data and be accessible when network congestion does happen.
