One step closer to Android apps running on PlayBook

RIM has posted a video showcasing its BlackBerry Packager, a clever bit of software that lets Android apps run on BlackBerry

In the run up to BlackBerry's DevCon event, RIM has released a video of its BlackBerry Packager software in action.

The software, which is basically a converter of APK files to BAR, will allow developers to convert make use of their Android apps on the BlackBerry platform, increasing the app library BlackBerry users will have access to.

As you can see in the video, developers will be able to obtain a signature key prior to porting apps, and then undergo a check to see if their existing app's compatability with the PlayBook tablet. If the green light is given, repackage and submit and the job is done.

According to the video, it will be free to submit applications to the App World, making it a tempting prospect for developers.

Hopefully more details on BlackBerry Packager will emerge from the DevCon event happening on October 18.
