UK mobile network Three has made a dramatic u-turn on a blog it posted on Wednesday saying that it was finalising plans to bring 4G to the UK.

The super quick 4G LTE technology has been rolled out in countries around the world including the USA and Korea, but the UK is dragging its feet when it comes to sorting it out its mobile network.

Three has gone from hero to zero in a matter of days after the initial excitement among customers over the promise of 4G quickly turned to disappointment when the carrier confirmed that it was actually just updating its 3G network this summer.

Every cloud has a silver lining

It's not all bad news though as Three's 3G upgrade will see speeds doubled to 42Mbps, thanks to the latest HSPA+ technology.

Three also confirmed that it is still working towards a LTE network and hopes that it will be the first company to offer 4G LTE internet in the UK.

The 4G network would see mobile broadband speeds rocket to a staggering 120Mbps and its arrival will open up a raft of LTE phones and tablets currently not available here in Britain.

There's still a chance that the T-Mobile and Orange partnership known as Everything Everywhere could launch its own 4G LTE network by the end of 2012, pending approval from Ofcom.

1. Have I missed something here?

Three's blog post on Wednesday included these two sentences: "We’re now in the process of finalising our plans to roll out what’s being described in the USA [by T-Mobile] as 4G. But let’s be absolutely clear – this isn’t 4G as in Long Term Evolution, or LTE as it’s also known."

Where's the "dramatic u-turn" that you speak of? As far as I can see, the closest thing to a U-turn here is that they changed the title of the post to focus on 3G rather than 4G (a fact acknowledged in the comments below the post), but the content of the post hasn't changed, and always made clear that this was '4G' in a non-LTE sense.

If we really, really have to go along with the idea that tweaking a headline constitutes a U-turn, can we at least agree that there's absolutely nothing "dramatic" about that whatsoever?

Samsung Galaxy Note to land on Three UK soon

Yes the Samsung Galaxy Note might just be the biggest thing right now, and I’m not just talking about size. This is one of those phones that really has everyone intrigued. No it’s not for everyone, but just about everyone has a look of “wow” on their face when they see it for the first time.

It looks like the loyal customers of Three UK are going to get rewarded soon because they just announced they plan to bring this beast to the lineup soon. They didn’t announce any specific time frame or pricing, but we do know they will carry the white version.

We are about to release our review of the U.S. version soon, but you can check out our hands on with some of the S Pen optimized apps as well as our quick overall hands on.

iPhone 4S surpasses four million sales in three days

Apple's iPhone 4S sales break previous iPhone 4 three day record

Apple has announced the sale of over four million new iPhone 4S handsets in the three days since the device launched.

The new smartphone has initially released in the UK, the US, France, Germany, Canada, Australia and Japan. Similarly high sales are expected when the iPhone 4S launches in a further 22 countries by the end of October and over 70 countries in total by the end of December.

The previous model iPhone 4, which launched in June last year, achieved record sales in its first three days, but this has been smashed by the new iPhone 4S which has more than doubled the figures of its predecessor.

Apple fans are clamouring for the iPhone 4S’ enhanced features, including a dual core processor on the iPad 2’s A5 chipset, an improved 8-megapixel camera with updated optics and the unique voice activated Siri assistant.

Customer reception of the iPhone 4S has been positive on the whole, despite negative reactions at first from analysts and commentators who expected the much-rumoured iPhone 5 instead.

Apple has, however, been experiencing some trouble with its new operating system update, iOS 5, which launched in tandem with the iPhone 4S. Some users of previous iPhones have found the update wipes their music, photos and even contacts.

Samsung Galaxy S II sells over 5 million units in three months

The Galaxy S II first arrived in South Korea on April 29, 2011. The following month, it was released in other Asian and European countries, including Japan and the UK. Last week, the smartphone debuted in China.

Samsung's long-term, worldwide ambitions for the Galaxy S II are relatively modest: 10 million units in all of 2011, which is the number it sold of the original Galaxy S in 2010. At this rate though, the company will break that number very quickly.

The Galaxy S II runs Android 2.3 (codenamed Gingerbread) and features a dual-core 1.2GHz processor. It is the first handset to offer Samsung's Super AMOLED Plus screen technology (4.27-inch display, 800x480 resolution), and is the company's thinnest phone at 8.49mm, with a weight of just 116g. The device also features an 8MP primary camera with 1080p video capture, and a 2MP camera in the front, as well as integrated NFC support on some versions. It also has BlueTooth 3.0+HS and HSPA+ connectivity.

The device's new Live Panel allows you to aggregate web, social networking, and app content to a single customizable home screen. You'll be able to switch between three adjacent home screens by simply pressing and holding on the screen. The phone will come with four new content and entertainment hubs: music, games, e-reading, and social networking.

Adobe releases three Photoshop apps for the iPad

As part of its Creative Suite 5.5 update, Adobe has released three Adobe Photoshop Touch apps for the Apple iPad: Adobe Color Lava ($3), Adobe Eazel ($5), and Adobe Nav ($2). You can grab them now from the Apple App Store.

The Adobe apps were developed using the Photoshop Touch Software Development Kit (SDK) in order to demonstrate the potential for new interaction between Photoshop CS5 and tablet devices. Adobe has already hinted that more Photoshop apps are coming and that it wants developers to create their own apps for Android devices, the Blackberry PlayBook, and iOS devices.

For the apps to work with your copy of Photoshop CS5, you have to update (don't worry, it's free) to version 12.0.4. For those who don't own Photoshop CS5, the updated version (version 12.1), which is part of Creative Suite 5.5, will also enable the Photoshop Touch app functionality.

The above is a step-by-step video to walk you through updating Photoshop CS5 to version 12.0.4, enabling Remote Connections, and connecting each of the Photoshop Touch apps to Photoshop. For those who aren't as visual, here's a short description of each: Color Lava allows you to mix colors on the iPad using your fingers as well as create color swatches and themes that can be transferred into Photoshop, Nav provides more desktop space by enabling users to select and control Photoshop tools on the iPad, and Eazel lets you create paintings with your fingertips, which you can then transfer back to Photoshop wirelessly.
