Turn Your Smartphone Into a Real World First Person Shooter with AppTag

Okay I’ll admit it, when I am out in public I secretly think to myself when looking at random people, “pew pew, got you.” What I mean by that of course is that if I had a Nerf gun or laser tag device I’d run around and shoot them at random folk. Now before you look at me like I am weird and all you can’t admit that you wouldn’t do the same or at least think about doing the same. When I saw the XAPPR AR idea I got excited about this becoming a reality. Well AppTag Laser Tag looks to throw their hat into the ring as well. As they put it:

“Imagine over 1,000 people all playing together across an entire city, or 10-20 friends battling it out in a park! AppTag will allow for Real World First Person Shooter Games…it’s like Call of Duty in the real world!”

How can anyone not like a “real world” Call of Duty-esque experience? Well much like the Laser-etched Galaxy Nexus backplates there is a campaign to make this a reality and all they want is some help from us folk in the form of a donation. Their goal of $30,000 has already been reached but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue to donate. Those who pledge money from now until the end of the campaign (9 days from now) will get a guarantee of delivery from the first batch and at a discounted price to boot! It will come with a free app so that you can play immediately when the gun is delivered. You can get it all for $39.99 for a single unit or $74.99 for a two pack and it will be available in June online and in stores.

The company is also releasing the SDK for the developers to build their on augmented reality app that takes advantage of these guns. You can hit the source below to donate and get in on this augmented reality laser tag campaign. Like I said you have nine days to get in on the discount pricing and first-batch shipments. Qualcomm showcases the Snapdragon S4 ahead of Mobile World Congress

We’ve already heard about Qualcomm’s latest processor, the Snapdragon S4, which will be quad-core and utilize LTE. Qualcomm took the time to give us some details ahead of Mobile World Congress. The new SoC now supports up to three cameras (two in the back for 3D and one front-facing), 20-megapixels, and recording video at 1080p (30fps). We can also expect zero shutter lag, 3A processing (autofocus, auto exposure and auto white balance), and improved blink/smile detection, gaze estimation, range finding and image stabilization. Last but not least, it supports gesture detection/control, augmented reality, and computer vision (via Qualcomm’s FastCV).

Angry Birds Space, get ready to fling birds out of this world

Angry Birds is fun, and it’s arguably the most popular mobile game out there. But there are only so many holidays and new levels that we can play before things start getting repetitive. Today, Rovio is here to tell you that the fun is not close to being over, yet. The company is exploring new territories and has taken the next version of Angry Birds all the way to outer space.

Angry Birds Space will be the next addition to the popular game collection, which will be released this coming March 22nd. We do not yet know what to expect of this game, other than the fact that it will take place out of this world. Rovio is releasing this game in collaboration with NASA and National Geographic, so who knows what that could entail.

New levels, characters and 3D effects are all possibilities, but it is more enticing to think of the different experiences that such a game could provide. I am very excited to see if there will be different gravity effects.

We will have to sit tight until more details show up. But for now, take a look at Rovio’s new teaser and let us know what you think. What do you guys think could make this game stand out from the other Angry Birds iterations?

This was fun when it first came out but haven’t played in while. Don’t think that being in space is going to be enough to entice me to go back to it again.

scrolls screen 3x just to see target… aim… release… scrolls screen 6x to find where birds landed… argghhhh forgot to factor in zero gravity ;P

Hmm I imagine if it is free I’ll probably download it play it for the first few levels and not touch it again for a month just like I do with most of the games on my phone.
