HTC shows off ImageSense with sample photos taken by HTC One

It’s no secret that the HTC One phones unveiled at Mobile World Congress this week were a step ahead of most the competition. We’re all suckers for dual- and quad-core processors, HD displays and Android 4.0, but one key differentiator HTC is focusing on this year is the camera on each of their phones.

To make HTC One phones stand out from the competition, HTC has equipped them all with an f/2.0 aperture and 28mm lens, dedicated HTC ImageChip, BSI sensor and a smart LED flash with five levels of brightness.

With ImageSense HTC One rivals traditional digital cameras with improvements to every part of the camera, including the lens, the sensor, the software, and even integrating a new custom HTC ImageChip.HTCSuperfast Capture: HTC One dramatically reduces the time it takes to take pictures. In just 0.7 seconds you’re able to take a shot. A with a new superfast 0.2-seconds autofocus, you can take nearly unlimited continuous shots simply by holding the shutter button.Good photos in adverse conditions: improved image quality with low light, no light or bright backlighting. The f/2.0 lens on the HTC One X and HTC One S captures 40 percent more light than the f/2.4 lenses available on other high-end phones. HTC One also includes HDR, which improves pictures when in direct sun light.Video Pic: capture a photo and shoot video at the same time.  Tap the shutter button while recording HD video to capture a high-resolution still photo while the phone continues to record video.  Users can also capture a photo frame from a previously recorded video.

It’s certainly nice to have all these new features built right into the HTC One devices, but what does all this technology actually translate to in the real world? HTC was kind enough to share a handful of sample pictures shot with the HTC One.

It would have been nice to have full resolution pictures to look at, but it looks like the focus on the HTC One’s camera was worth the time and effort. We can’t wait to get out hands on the HTC One devices and compare them to the competition.

Smartphones Take One-in-Four Photos, Videos

People are increasingly reaching for a smartphone to snap pictures, as mobile devices emerge as a popular choice for recording life's everyday moments.

A study from market research firm NPD shows U.S. consumers now take more than a quarter of their photos and videos with a smartphone. At the same time, sales of point-and-shoot cameras and camcorders are shrinking, revealing how camera-equipped smartphones are gaining a stronger foothold in the amateur photography market.

Top-selling smartphones, such as the iPhone 4S with its 8-megapixel camera, are now equipped with better photography capabilities. As a result, users are more likely to carry one device with them instead of two, capturing spontaneous moments with the mobile device they already carry in their pocket instead of toting along a camera.

Mobile use is also transforming the nature of personal photography. People no longer snap and print photos only to enclose them in dusty albums on a shelf. They e-mail pictures to family and friends, share them on Facebook, Flickr and other sites, and post them to blogs.

Smartphones enable users to snap photos on the go and share them instantly with a few clicks, and social media sites are supporting the trend. Facebook is expected to integrate photo and video editing with its mobile apps through its acquisition of video and image app developer Digital Staircase, and Google+ rolled out integrated photo editing tools soon after its fall launch, in effect turning users' social media profiles into digital photo and video albums.

Some mobile apps and editing tools let people produce high-quality videos and photos right from their phones, but others simply make the smartphone photography process more fun. Photo apps like Instagram for iOS and Vignette for Android allow mobile shutterbugs to play with their photos, easily adding filters and effects and experimenting with light exposure.

Even professional photographers like Annie Leibovitz are singing the praises of the iPhone's camera, and smartphone photographs are, in some cases, elevated to the level of art.

The NPD survey showed people still prefer a "traditional" camera for recording life's momentous occasions. But smartphones are increasingly the go-to device for capturing everyday memories.

LG Prada 3.0 photos leak, bring black back

Looks like LG hopes that the LG Prada 3.0 will be the new black as far as smartphones are concerned, as leaked press shots show the fashion phone sporting a monochrome look.

The images don't give much away – we can see 3G connectivity, a stylised black-and-white Android overlay and a rear-mounted camera housed in a rather boxy form with a textured back panel.

However the leak comes with a little specification frosting: we're looking at a dual-core 1GHz processor, HD screen, Gingerbread 2.3, 8GB storage, HD video recording, a microSD slot, 8MP autofocus camera and NFC capabilities.

Prada-mark

The sneaky source that sent the pics to German site BestBoyz also let slip that there'll be some Prada-branded accessories alongside the handset, including a docking station and a case.

Given that the last images we saw of the Prada-branded handset were rather sketchy, this is the first time we've seen the phone in sharp focus.

But it won't be the last, as we're expecting to see the LG Prada 3.0 (variously known as the LG Prada K2) at a swanky event co-hosted by the two companies in London this evening.

Sample photos reveal Nokia Lumia 800 camera details

The Nokia 800 may launch as the Nokia Lumia 800 when it is revealed at Nokia World this week.

It seems to be the device name behind some sample photos posted to (and then deleted from) Flickr this week, whose EXIF data has unveiled a few other nuggets of camera-based info.

Aside from citing the device as the Nokia Lumia 800, the data also reveals a camera has an aperture rating of f2.2 and its software is listed as Windows Phone 7.5 (well, duh).

Luminous

It sounds suspiciously similar to the camera on board the Nokia N9, which would surprise us not one jot given that the Nokia 800's body is set to be the same as the MeeGo handset.

Does that mean we'll also see the same Carl Zeiss Tessar 28mm optics on board? We'd say so.
