LG to show off revolutionary smartphones at MWC 2012

lg-mwc-2012

LG just sent out the invite for their Mobile World Congress press event which promises to let us “discover LG’s new revolutionary smartphones.” Those are pretty big claims, but the three devices we are expecting from LG could deliver. Read on for the full details of the rumored devices.

LG X3

The LG X3 was first revealed last month and we expect it to be their flagship device. The main attraction here is the quad-core Tegra 3, which we expect to see in several phones. However, we are hearing that LG might have the fastest clocked Tegra 3 out of the bunch, so keep this phone on your watch list.

Rumored specs of the X3 include:

Android 4.0Quad-core Tegra processor4.7-inch 1280×720 display1.3 megapixel front-facing camera8 megapixel rear camera16 GB of internal storageWiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC2,000mAh batteryLG CX2 (aka Optimus 3D 2 or Optimus 3D Maxx)

Last year at MWC 2011, LG announced the Optimus 3D and this year we expect them to unveil its successor. Expect an improved auto-stereoscopic display for glasses-free 3D and improved cameras for 3D pictures and video.

Rumored specs of the LG CX2 include:

Android 4.01.2 GHz dual-core TI OMAP processor4.3-inch WVGA NOVA 3D displayDual 5 MP rear cameras for 3D pictures and videoSupport for HSPA+ 21 Mbps networksWiFi, Bluetooth, NFCLG Vu

LG’s Korean blog just posted a teaser video for this super-sized phone, which features the rarely-used 4:3 aspect ratio. It is headed for the Korean market, but it could be coming to other countries as well.

Rumored specs of the LG Vu include:

Android 2.35-inch 1024×768 IPS displayDual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S3 processor8 megapixel camera1 GB RAM, 8 GB of internal storageWiFi, Bluetooth, NFCWrap up

We had high hopes for LG last year, but they haven’t really impressed us yet. I purchased the T-Mobile LG G2x, which was plagued by many software issues and a sub-par display. LG has released some decent devices like the Verizon Spectrum, but they didn’t include enough extras to make it stand out from the crowd. Hopefully we see an improvement in 2012.

Which upcoming LG phone has you most excited?

I’m actually really interested in the LG Optimus Vu. I was a fan of the series on AT&T, and wonder what they’re planning to add to that puppy. I wonder if they’ll launch some kind of streaming tv/video package with it?

The G2x is disappointing the hell out of me as well seeing that the sources haven’t been released, therefore no ICS rom foe us. And I’m extremely interested by the X3 but I don’t wanna be let down again.

I agree. I had to pull my battery out of my G2x (yet again) yesterday, it was unresponsive.

Not sure how LG came put out a new phone with ICS software, yet leave existing customer waiting until 2nd…3rd quarter of the year.

It looks like Samsung is the vendor that supports existing customers the best. cyanogenmod says Samsung cells will get the new rom 1st. Little or no mention of LG. I’m running the stock rom from LG.

As for buying another cell from LG, put me in the “wait and see” list. If the G2x continues with little/no support I’m going to Samsung.

Um I believe that LG did release the source of the O2x. Check out Modaco forums. I believe Paul is working on an ICS port.

Wow! An increase from 4.7″ all the way to 5.0″!

An amazing 0.3 inches!

That 0.3 inches makes all the difference… right ladies?

jokes are jokes but Vu has actually the same surface area as 5.13″ 16:9 phone. Means it’s 0.43″ larger or ~1cm. Not bad

Unfortunately the pixel density 256 ppi and the processor are shit for 2012.

My verdict to Vu: fail, born dead

Reply 4RRR 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down 0

Sorry i wrote by memory … it’s actually equivalent not to 0.43″ but 0.45″ larger screen and not with 16:9 (like X3, Nexus 1280×720 or SGS 800×480 I/II) but with 16:10 aspect (like Samsung Note 1280×800). So if it would be made with the Note aspect ratio the Vu screen is just a bit smaller then Note at equivalent 5.15″.

And comparing to usual 16:9 aspect, the Vu is like whole whooping 0.6″ larger ! The Nexus or SGS 16:9 screen would be 5.3″ to have the same surface area

I had the LG thrill for a little, and while the 3D is truley impressive, the UI was horrible, the build while great, just didnt do it for me. I really interested see there ui changes and these rendered pictures actually look nice. I really want to like LG but as now they make the worse phones imo.

LG promises to reveal their new “revolutionary” smartphones yet somehow they all look exactly the same as their previous models.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on anything made by LG. Something wrong will always exist you can count on that….

Reply 40Tico4674 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down +2

Does that mean your next phone will most likely be an LG device?

Reply squiddy20Guest 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down +2

And I can always count on you to come up with some biased, hypocritical, and sometimes even snobbish BS. You’ve only owned 1 (just ONE) LG Android phone in your entire life, and it was only for 3 or 4 weeks. And you’re basing your entire viewpoints solely on your apparently shitty 3 or so week experience. What you’re doing is equivalent to me saying “Richard is black, therefore, all black people are like him.” Thank god I’m smart enough to know that isn’t the least bit true. I would hate to see a world filled with such ignorant morons who make up such bullshit as you do. I would hope after almost 2 years of my trolling your sorry ass, you would’ve learned SOMETHING, but apparently I shouldn’t be “holding my breath” because you’re utterly hopeless.

S3 in a 2012 phone is a bit of a disappointment.

Tegra phones are not going to take the world by storm this year either. That’s my guess.

The biggest hurdle LG still has is hw and sw reliability.

If they can get that along with reasonable updates working, then they have a fighting chance.

But if not, ah well, another year of losses.

well hopefully they have better phone software wise because the G2X was the worst phone my mom ever got.

Reply 42BigCiX 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down 0

I don’t wanna see any device unless it has Nexus on it.

Reply 62aranea 1 day ago Thumb upThumb down 0

ON paper x3 looks great. Can anybody comment on LG’s record on updating their phones?
